SSC CGL: photo and signature guide

Recent SSC application modules, including CGL, capture your photo live and take only the signature as a prepared file. Read the current CGL notice for your year before applying.

Official size and format

PhotographCaptured live by the application module (webcam, mobile browser or mySSC app). A saved photo file is not uploaded. Sit in good light, plain background, camera at eye level, no cap or glasses.

SignaturePrepared file upload: JPEG/JPG, 10-20 KB, about 6.0 cm x 2.0 cm. Sign inside a drawn box so the signature fills most of the box; miniature signatures are a common rejection reason.

Aadhaar optionCandidates who complete Aadhaar based authentication are exempt from rejection on photo or signature grounds, as per recent SSC notices.

How to prepare the files with PDF Saathi Hub

Sign clearly with a black or blue pen inside a small box on white paper and take a straight, well lit photo or scan of it.
Crop only the signature part in the Photo Editor if there is extra paper around it.
Open Photo / Sign KB, choose the SSC sign preset or set 10 KB minimum and 20 KB maximum, and create the JPEG.
Open the downloaded file, check the signature is sharp and readable, then upload it on ssc.gov.in.

Do not photograph an old printed photograph during the live capture step; SSC notices say such forms are rejected. The photo taken at the exam centre must match your application appearance.

For CGL 2025 the window ran from 9 June to 4 July 2025; each year's dates and paragraph numbers shift, so download the current notice from ssc.gov.in before relying on any range.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload a saved passport photo for SSC CGL?

No. Recent SSC application modules capture a live photo through your webcam or phone camera. Only the signature is uploaded as a prepared file.

What if my signature file is above 20 KB?

Create it again with the Photo / Sign KB tool using 10 KB minimum and 20 KB maximum. The tool lowers JPEG quality until the file fits the range.

Do the 2026 numbers apply to every SSC exam?

The 10-20 KB signature range appears in the CHSL 2026 and GD 2026 notices and follows the same template as CGL 2025. Always match the paragraph of your own notice and year.
